Margo Maley for Bulkley -Nechako Area C
Personally, I believe that the Food Supply Chain will be a challenge in the coming months and we need to prepare. I support any food growing ideas and business ventures that would sustain our communities and provide guaranteed food supply. If there is money available for start up cost and planning, let's do it. I support any rancher, farmer, back yard grower who contributes, provides solutions and wants to feed our communities.
I am interested in your issues that you feel important. Please email me or phone me.
I also believe that affordable housing is an issue. Let's look at rural community housing projects, maybe a tiny home village, co-op living and working the land for food sustainability and local food banks.
The North Road has always been an issue. Having said that, there has been upgrades and are currently in progress. It certainly isn't the road it was only a few years ago. As a crew bus driver, I find myself wishing the maintenance would be consistent. The wash board gets to the point of brutal before a grader is sent up. It's been one of the determining factors in my running for Director of Area C , ... I know that the resources that come out of the north in Area C, Mackenzie and predominantly Stuart-Nechako Forest District provide the most revenue to the provincial coffers than any other Forest District in the province. With the Mining revenues added to that, our North Road should and could have been paved in gold by now.
The Tachie Road finally paved after 5 years of being expired and due for resurfacing.
There has been some improvements no doubt!
YRB does a great job in the winter and I appreciate that. Your family, my family, your neighbor, my neighbor, our friends and community members travel these roads in adverse conditions whether to work or to school, or to medical appointments in Prince George. YRB does an amazing job and should receive awards for their excellence. The winter maintenance is superb.
I wish for summer maintenance to be as exceptional.
At the end of the day, we want our families home safe and sound.
I had a conversation with a local who is concerned about the log trucks driving through our town and that we get no benefit. I agree that there should be revenue sharing with the Mining and Forest Industry. Dollars should be shared with the local communities that are hauled thru. There once was a law in place that if there was a tree license issued near a town that a certain amount needed to be milled in that town. We had at one time several saw mills here. Good news,... a few years ago there was a reinstated implementation of that old criteria, ... unfortunately we have not seen the benefits of the re-installation of that law because before it was passed, several hundreds of tenures were issued prior to and therefore grandfathered. Nevertheless revenue sharing needs to be an agenda we need to seriously discuss. On that note there has been a Memorandum of Understanding recently signed on Sept 15, 2022 for Hwy 16 townships, communities and Regional Districts in the north.
Good news! It's a start!
Another idea came up in conversation recently. The idea of having a food processing facilities that local garden growers could take their produce and have their vegetables processed and preserved. Great idea! Maybe the same facility could teach the basics in food preservation. Many don't know how to do preserve. Do you have an idea like this? It would be a great asset to our communities. I would totally support a business or co-op like this!
Do you have an idea? Do you have a passion?
We could have our own meat packing plant supporting our farmers and ranchers. We could make our own specialty products, make our own healthy dog food and cat food, chicken feed, hog feed with locally produced crops and livestock in our Regional District. We don't have to go too far to find what we need here. Supporting an already and an upcoming local rancher and farmer Region wide!
These are a few of the issues of the day that I see. Please refer to the Platforms and Passions section of my website. That is not an exhaustive list but a start to having the conversation around the table.
Please contact me with your concerns.
Thank you for your time, Margo
Parental Rights in Education
I stand in agreement with all candidates who are calling for B.C. schools to uphold parental rights and free speech.
The SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) program in this province's schools goes too far. Vulnerable children who may question their identity are directed into gender theory and gender ideology confusion. The school needs to stick to basics in school and not delve into driving them into medical transitioning - without the parents' knowledge or consent.
Under B.C.'s Infants Act, parents have no say in such treatments, as recently ruled in a B.C. court.
We need to stop the take over of our parental rights and freedom to speak.

Province partners with northwestern communities to support economic growth
The Province and the Northwest BC Resource Benefits Alliance (RBA) are committed to listening to rural and northern voices to better understand the growing needs of the region’s communities. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) strengthens the partnership between the Province and the RBA, which includes local governments throughout northwestern B.C. and outlines common goals and sets out principles for future engagement. It will build shared knowledge of the unique challenges in the region and determine the next phase to discuss solutions. “We know that northwestern B.C. has unique needs and is growing quickly,” said Nathan Cullen, Minister of Municipal Affairs. “By signing this MOU agreement, our government is committed to listening to rural and northern voices, and we will work collaboratively to meet the needs of people in this beautiful region.” The RBA is an association of the 21 local governments in northwestern B.C., from Masset to Vanderhoof. Formed in 2014, the RBA includes member municipalities and electoral areas of the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako, the Regional District of Kitimat-Stikine and the North Coast Regional District. “We’re committed to ensuring people in northern B.C. have the services they need, which can be challenging while communities are in the midst of rapid economic growth,” said Jennifer Rice, MLA for North Coast. “This is great news for communities in northwestern B.C., and I look forward to the continued collaboration.
